The Minister of Agriculture, Animal Resources, and Fisheries, Commander Ismaël SOMBIE, led a ministerial delegation on a visit to AMG Fertilizer's facilities in Ghana from August 22 to 27, 2024, to establish a fertilizer supply partnership.
In line with the objectives of the "2023–2025 Agropastoral and Fisheries Offensive," which aims to boost production in key sectors, ensuring the availability of high-quality fertilizers in a timely manner is crucial.
To meet this goal and strengthen economic ties between Burkina Faso and Ghana, the Burkina Faso Company for Agropastoral Inputs and Equipment (SOBIMAP) was established. SOBIMAP initiated discussions with AMG Ghana Limited to formalize a fertilizer supply partnership.
This partnership, represented by AMG under the leadership of its CEO, Mr. Ernest Akwesi APPIAH, and the Burkina Faso government, represented by the Minister of Agriculture, Commander Ismaël SOMBIE, aims to supply high-quality fertilizers such as NPK and urea to Burkina Faso to support its agricultural sector.
Following the inspection of AMG Fertilizer's facilities, evaluation of production and distribution capacities, and review of raw materials and production processes, the two parties finalized a partnership agreement for the supply of fertilizers to Burkina Faso.
This agreement includes the signing of a multi-year convention.
In the medium term, the convention envisions the establishment of a fertilizer blending plant in Burkina Faso, the creation of employment opportunities associated with the plant, and the exploitation of the Kodjoari phosphate mine, which could provide raw materials for fertilizer production.
